In the
1989 Pro Bowl, the NFC
dominated the AFC with a
second half scoring barrage.
The coaches for the game
were Mike Ditka of the Bears
and Marv Levy of the Bills.
The Attendance of the game
was 50,113.
The AFC opened the scoring
in the first quarter with a
38 yard field goal by Scott
Norwood of Buffalo. Dallas’
Herschel Walker gave the NFC
the lead at the end of the
first quarter with a 4 yard
touchdown run. Morten
Andersen of New Orleans
kicked the extra point
assuring that he would score
in four straight Pro Bowls.
In the second quarter,
Atlanta’s John Settle
carried the ball in from the
one to give the NFC a 14-3
halftime advantage.
The second half was all NFC.
In the third quarter,
Andersen kicked a 27 yard
field goal and Walker scored
on a 7 yard touchdown run.
The score was 24-3 at the
end of three quarters. In
the fourth, Andersen kicked
the longest field goal in
Pro Bowl history from 51
yards out. The Rams’ Henry Ellard caught an 8 yard
touchdown pass from
Minnesota’s Wade Wilson to
make the final score, NFC
34, AFC 3.
Warren
Moon of Houston, competing in his first
Pro Bowl, completed 13 of 20
passes for 134 yards for the
AFC. The NFC held the AFC to
167 net yards and
Philadelphia’s Reggie White
had two of the NFC’s four
sacks. Randall Cunningham of
the Eagles completed 10 of
14 passes for 63 yards and
rushed for 49 yards to MVP honors.
