Steve DeBerg was the NFL’s ultimate journeyman. He began his pro career
in 1977 with Dallas, which drafted him in the 10th round. He was waived
by Dallas and went to San Francisco, where he became a starter under
Bill Walsh two seasons later. He is one of only two quarterbacks to
start games for six different teams; San Francisco 49ers (1978-1980),
Denver Broncos (1981-1983), Tampa Bay Buccaneers (1984-1987, 1992,
1993), Kansas City Chiefs (1988-1991), Miami Dolphins (1993), and
Atlanta Falcons (1998). He served as backup to such greats as Joe
Montana, John Elway, Steve Young and Vinny Testaverde. He never spent
more than 64 games with any one team. |
