Ron Jaworski
Philadelphia Eagles
After
starring at Youngstown State University, Jaworski was chosen in the
second round of the 1973 NFL draft by the Los Angeles Rams. He spent his
first season on the team's taxi squad and was added to the roster as
backup quarterback in 1974. He was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles
before the 1977 season and became the starter there.
Jaworski was named the National Football Conference player of the year
by United Press International in 1980 and he also won the Bert Bell
Trophy as the NFL's outstanding player. He completed 257 of 451 passes
for 3,529 yards and 27 touchdowns, with only 12 interceptions, that
season and took the Eagles into the Super Bowl, where they lost 27-10 to
the Oakland Raiders.
Jaworski played with Philadelphia through 1986 and finished his career
as a backup with the Miami Dolphins in 1987. During his NFL career, he
completed 2,142 of 4,042 passes for 27,682 yards and 176 touchdowns.
