Mike Hohensee

Washington Federals

 

 

Mike Hohensee played college football at the University of Minnesota. He quarterbacked the Washington Federals in the first season of the USFL. Following the USFL, Hohensee played for the Chicago Bears replacement team during the 1987 NFL players strike and in Canadian Football League.

Hohensee, as quarterback of the Pittsburgh Gladiators, threw the first touchdown pass in the history of the Arena Football League. He led Pittsburgh to the first Arena Bowl. In 1989, he became the first AFL player to become a coach with the Chicago Bruisers. He also coached the Washington Commandos, Anaheim Piranhas, Albany Firebirds and New England Sea Wolves before becoming the Chicago Rush in 2000. In 2006, after posting a 7-9 regular-season record, The Rush ran off three road playoff wins to get to the title matchup with the Orlando Predators in Las Vegas. The Rush won, 69-61.
